An ebike battery consists of the housing, the cell pack and the battery management system (BMS). The housing protects the cells and the BMS and also ensures that no moisture can get to the cells. The BMS ensures that the battery is properly charged and discharged and monitors the cells for overtemperature or overcurrent conditions. 

Re-celling or rebuilding a battery pack is different than repairing one. A general rule of thumb is that if the battery pack does not work at all, chances are it will require a repair. In the case where a battery pack is losing it's capacity, it is likely that the pack may need to be re-celled or rebuilt.

It is essential that all of the cells in a battery pack be replaced by new ones of the same brand and type. We regularly see battery packs that were rebuilt with different brands and types and this is unacceptable in terms of quality and safety. Always use a company that has a proven track record of quality, safety and experience. 

Lithium cells are not purchased just anywhere. BraapZap uses suppliers who are committed to providing the freshest and highest quality name brand cells such as LG, Samsung and Panasonic. If your pack rebuilder can't show you a receipt for the recent purchase of new, bulk cells, don't trust them!

Bad spot welding is unsafe and unreliable! The quality of a rebuilt battery pack relies just as much on the quality of the cells as how they are interconnected. BraapZap uses premium laser cut pure nickel strips and plates for all of our rebuilds. These plates are spot welded to the cells using American made capacitive discharge spot welders for a perfect weld every time. 

We micro-balance all cell groups to within .001v during final assembly and then load test the pack to make sure it meets the specifications of the pack. We also perform multiple discharge and charge cycles to assure that the pack has been rebuilt to OEM specifications. 

Ebike batteries require special shipping and labeling as they are considered hazardous. Please make sure you ship your battery to us using the correct procedures for your carrier.

Quality is not always evident with a rebuilt battery pack. Take the time to ask questions about the quality of the components used for your rebuild and always ask about how the warranty works and what it covers.
