We're seeing a lot of completely dead battery packs come in and I suspect that they have not been maintained over the winter; this is a very expensive mistake! We've opened several 60v packs that have measured only 3 volts, which means that the cells of the pack are permanently damaged. Most folks don't realize that the BMS, the electronic circuitry that maintains cell group balance and charge/discharge safety consumes a bit of current as it runs its processor. If you leave a pack for longer than several weeks without checking on it, there is a good chance that the BMS could consume the remaining power in your pack and that pack will then be damaged. So, keep your pack at 75-80% when not in use and store it in a cool, dry location not in your house. Your garage could work as long as the temperature doesn't fall too much below 50 degress Fahrenheit. We recommend the 80-50-80 rule: store at no more than 80% in no less than 50 degrees and no more than 80 degrees. Remember this simple rule and your pack will last a long time!
